Domestic Violence Hurts Us All

Empowering Bystanders to Act

Domestic violence impacts everyone, not just those directly experiencing it. To put communities on the front lines of recognition and action, DCF launched the “Domestic Violence Hurts Us All” campaign. Centered on the message, “If you hear it or see it, find out what you can do,” it urged neighbors to get involved and guided them to local and national helplines. Communication materials were distributed via various community organizations to help train neighbors and bystanders how to look for the signs of domestic violence that may be happening around them and how to take appropriate action, while still maintaining their own safety. By empowering everyday people, the campaign positioned community awareness as a vital first step toward overall community safety.
